I would surely soak it a few nights in PB blaster before messing with it. That stuff works wonders on freeing old bolts.

PB blaster soak blue wrench
afraid of it shearing off
if it does could i get metal rod welded andthreaded?
Excuse my lack of experience..want to do this once
It could turn out as an expensive frame lol
thank you for your time

no problem at all Dave. PB blaster is my best friend ( well beer too ). If I buy an old bike, The first thing I do is spray it down with PB and leave it sit in a corner for a few days. Usually have no problems getting things apart without destroying them. That is a very cool frame and fork you have. Keep the pictures coming man  8) 8)

btw i asked around locally no luck on brazing the 54 frameset..any leads out there?
Title: Re: greetings
Post by: Oso on April 25, 2014, 01:47:24 pm
Why not weld the frame ?   or do you want to do a correct restoration ?

Title: Re: greetings
Post by: Slow on April 25, 2014, 03:38:57 pm
If you plan to paint the frame you could weld and grind then polish the area.
Title: Re: greetings
Post by: dave420 on April 25, 2014, 11:38:28 pm
ive read brazing wouldnt alter the metal
im not restoring it  i plan to fix somehow paint satin black with satin white for details
just learning, not trying to say whats what   what?  the 54 springer bracket will be made..49 westfield got the step nuts ..
also i asked the person on ebay sold me repro springer ..he was getting an estimate for 500 sets of step nuts fwiw
Title: Re: greetings
Post by: Boris on April 26, 2014, 12:52:43 pm
Looking good, any further with the brazing? I wonder if a local garage would have someone with the gear, all the garages I have worked in have the equipment, but that is England  8)
Its a cool job to take to a shop on a Saturday morning as you can usually pay with that great currency Beer! Or is that just England as well!  8)
